I love shooting proposals, and I have been so fortunate to have been able to shoot two this year so far. To be able to capture such an intense, personal moment between two people – the moment they decide to spend their lives together – is such an amazing experience, and I am always so honored to be able to do that for them. I love the raw emotion I am able to capture in these moments – and yes, I always get a little teary. How could you not?!
Brett and Brynley are from Vermont, and decided to spend last weekend in the city. Brett decided it would be the perfect time to ask Brynley to marry him, so he contacted me and asked if I would document the moment for them. Of course, I was delighted! I was a little nervous since I like to meet and do a run through with the person proposing prior to the actual proposal – so we all know where we’re supposed to be, and so I know who I’m looking for on the big day. But since Brett and Brynley were from Vermont, we wouldn’t have a chance to meet. We’d have to wing it. We picked a very easy-to-find landmark – the LOVE sculpture on 55th Street and 6th Avenue – and Brett cleverly texted me a photo of the two of them that morning, so I knew what they’d be wearing. When they walked up the street – I spotted them immediately.
They stopped in front of the LOVE sculpture and talked for a few minutes, and then Brett got down on one knee and Brynley said yes and began to cry. It was so sweet. After a few minutes, Brett waved me over, and we all three walked up to Central Park to capture their first few moments as an engaged couple. It was a cold, blustery day, but Brett and Brynley were total troopers, and I had such a fantastic time getting to know them and hearing their story.
Brett and Brynley, thank you so much for allowing me to document your engagement! I know you two are going to have an amazing life together! Congratulations!
