As you know, on Friday I got to photograph something truly spectacular: an actual proposal! It was one of my favorite moments as a photographer. It was one of those days when I walked home and thought, “Yes, this is why I get up everyday – to do this!” I love my job beyond all measure.
This plan first came into being early last week, when I received an email one evening from David. He had found my website, and wanted to know if I would be interested in shooting a proposal on Friday. I met him in Madison Square Park a few days after that, and we mapped out where he would propose and where I would be standing – pretending not to be photographing them.
When they walked into the park on Friday, I was in position, trying to look nonchalant. David guided Lisa to a perfect spot in the middle of the park and dropped to one knee. I started shooting as quickly as possible, trying to get as close as I could without giving it away that I was photographing them. I don’t know what he said to her, but she definitely said yes. I almost felt myself tearing up, as I watched the scene unfold through my lens. I had never seen anyone (besides myself!) get engaged before, and it was such an incredible experience.
After a few minutes, David waved me over, and I think Lisa was beyond stunned that David had thought to photograph the proposal. We spent the next half hour taking pictures in Madison Square Park, as the two of them enjoyed their first newly engaged moments together.
David and Lisa, I wish you so much happiness, and I could not have been more honored to photograph your proposal!
