Rosanne & Johnny visited New York City at the end of August from Arizona, and decided while they were on vacation that they wanted a portrait session to commemorate their trip. I met them one morning at the beautiful Hotel Giraffe where they were staying and we spent a few hours exploring the city together and capturing photographs along the way. We walked all over the Flatiron and Chelsea, and after a quick clothes change, we hopped on the subway and headed into Central Park. Rosanne & Johnny were incredibly sweet and lovely to work with, and I had an absolute blast getting to know them!
I huge number of my clients are out of towners on vacation, and I LOVE that. I love New York City so much, and getting to share it and play tour guide for a few hours is always so much fun. It makes me see New York with fresh eyes again – and makes me think of my very first trip to New York in 2005. I fell in love that trip – with the city, the electricity, the energy… – and went back to North Carolina bound and determined to move up here even though I was a flat broke 22 year old. Almost exactly a year to the date of that first trip, John and I found ourselves living in an itty bitty studio on Avenue C in the East Village. To this day I’m still not totally sure how I (we) made that happen.
When my out of towner clients walk through the city with me, I often wonder if they are falling in love the way I did that day six and a half years ago. I look for it in their faces. Will we be neighbors someday? New York has a way of getting under your skin, into your blood. It’s crazy that way.
