If you know me at all, you know I’m a serious list maker – to do lists, grocery lists, life lists, goals, dreams… list making is my thing. It was hard not to think about my next birthday this weekend – yes, already – only because it’s a rather big one. I’ve been thinking a lot about my twenties… where I began this decade: working as a receptionist at a hair salon in Wilmington, NC; living in a dumpy little apartment by UNC-W; a different kind of life laid out before me than the one I’m living now – and where I’ll be ending this decade: running my own business in New York City; living in our lovely renovated brownstone; married the most amazing man; living a life that my 20 year old self could never remotely dream of. And although my 20s were filled with many many ups and downs, I can’t say I have any regrets.
But there are still things left to do and accomplish before 30. And I want to have a year full of fun and adventure. Well… truly I want every year to be that way, but this one especially so. So I sat down and thought about what I want this year to look like, and a few things I want to do before The Big Birthday next year.
Some things from the list:
ride in a hot air balloon; move into our new home; finally put together our wedding album; go to Iceland; learn to make perfect macarons; mentor another photographer; set up a side website to sell my fine art; get a driver’s license; ride the Roosevelt Island Tram; run a race; go ziplining; go ice skating; go sledding; go to the Grand Canyon; read at least one book a month; start working on becoming fluent in Italian; have a real picnic with friends in Central Park…
…and the list goes on.
Will I be devastated if I don’t accomplish all of my goals before 30? Nope. They’ll just go on next year’s list. But I thought it would be a fun, little project to spend my year working on. Do you have a list like this in your head?
