You might remember Abbi from Katie & Nick’s awesome elopement. It’s so rare that I get referrals from other elopement clients, since 99% of my clients are from overseas. But luckily for me, all these Aussies actually live in New York City, and after we met at Katie & Nick’s wedding, Abbi asked if I’d be interested in photographing her elopement in June. I couldn’t say yes fast enough!
I met Abbi & Ben at their lovely West Village apartment that morning, and we wandered around taking portraits in their beautiful neighborhood before heading off to meet all their friends – including Katie & Nick – at City Hall. You cannot go wrong in the West Village – it is such a gorgeous neighborhood and every five feet there’s another great place to stop for portraits.
Before heading downtown, Abbi wanted to stop in and show her drycleaner her wedding dress. That probably doesn’t make a lot of sense if you don’t live in NYC, but in the city, we have such a “neighborhood culture.” The people at the drycleaner, the cashier at your corner deli, the man you buy your coffee from in the morning… you see these people everyday, get to know them. It’s just such a New York thing. So when Abbi mentioned she wanted to stop by the drycleaner, I just thought it was such a sweet New York City moment.
City Hall was jam packed that day, and I had such a great opportunity to be creative with the photographs of everyone waiting to be called in. I always love that. After their short ceremony, we headed off to the Maritime Hotel where they were having their reception, and for some more portraits. It was such a perfect day, and I was so thrilled to be a part of it. Abbi & Ben – you guys are just amazing, and I wish you so much happiness.
