In June I traveled to Utah to photograph Heather & Mike’s wedding at the Sundance Resort, and I’m not even sure where to begin in describing this wedding. It was just beyond amazing in every single way, and being a part of it was truly one of the best experiences in my career. I asked my friend and fellow photographer, Allison Andres, to join me as second shooter, and we had pretty much the best time ever.
I started the day with Heather while she got ready in a gorgeous house her mother had rented halfway up the mountain, while Allison spent time with Mike and his brothers down at the resort. I have to say, I not only fell in love with Heather & Mike, but their families as well. Having so many different generations – great-grandparents to babies – all together was such an incredible site.
The ceremony was held back down at the resort itself, under a bright blue sky with the mountains as a backdrop. It’s probably the most beautiful setting I’ve ever had the chance to photograph. I think one of my absolute favorite moments of the day was after we had finished the First Look and group portraits and were waiting in the basement of the building to go up for the ceremony. Heather & Mike were passing their baby niece and nephew back and forth, everyone was so calm and relaxed. It’s rare I see two people so seemingly at easy five minutes before their ceremony, and I just loved that.
Their reception was so full of love and laughter, good friends and food, and some seriously fantastic dance moves. And of course, at sunset, I stole these two for a few more portraits as the light was just perfect. I think it’s safe to say everyone had a wonderful time – including Allison and myself.
Heather & Mike – you two are so lovely in every way. Thank you so much for everything; this was truly one of the best moments I’ve ever had as a wedding photographer.
