I always encourage my clients to get married at a time of day in which we’ll be able to take advantage of the best possible light – that’s typically sunrise and the first two hours after, or two hours before sunset. Almost all of my clients decide to go with afternoon weddings, but Brittany & Jason surprised me and went the early morning route. And I have to say, these photographs were definitely worth getting up at 5am for!
Brittany & Jason traveled up from Virginia to elope at City Hall in October, and it was a perfect fall day. I met them at the beautiful midtown apartment they’d rented for the week to photograph them as they finished getting ready – Brittany had actually started her day at 3am to get ready in time! We decided to head to Central Park for portraits first and it was such a good decision – the sun was just coming up, and the park was totally deserted except for a few dogs and their owners. It was so much fun to more or less have the park to ourselves and get to photograph Bethesda Terrace completely empty! A first for me!
After spending some time in the park, we walked over to the Magnolia Bakery on 69th Street to grab some cupcakes before we hopped on the subway to City Hall. We arrived bright and early, just as City Hall was opening up, but it was already a mad house. And on top of being full of couples getting married, it was also the day before they filmed Liz Lemon’s wedding for 30 Rock there, so there was a crew of TV people getting things set up for the shoot. It was complete chaos, but we had such a great time waiting and people watching until they called Brittany & Jason into the chapel. And then that was it! Just like that they were married!
Brittany & Jason – I adored working with you guys! Thank you for making me laugh all morning! Wishing you so much happiness!
