Stuff I Love: Products I Can’t Live Without

It’s no secret that Sephora is pretty much my favorite store. When I go in there, buy something, and they scan my points card, even the cashiers say, “Whoa, you have a lot of points.” I always love it when people talk about their favorite hair and make-up products, and I’ve even found some of my own favorite products that way. I thought it would be fun to do a round up of my favorite hair and skin products that I can’t live without. It took me a really long time to find stuff that worked for my combination skin, but now I’m really loyal to what I use. I’ve made a huge effort to start taking really good care of my skin now, because dammit, I want my skin to still to look awesome when I’m 65. So these are the products that I just can’t live without…

1. Bumble & Bumble Quenching Complex: This stuff is AH-MAZING. I recently put ombre highlights in my hair, so the tips are blonde and slowly fades to dark brown as it goes up to the roots. I love it, but it definitely fried my hair. My stylist sent me home with this stuff, and it’s kind of amazing. It’s basically a leave in conditioner for really fried hair, and I only use it on the bottom where my hair is blonde. It makes it look so much healthier and it smells incredible. You really only need to use a dab, so I’m told this bottle will last me forever.

2. Kiehl’s Line Reducing Concentrate: This one is kind of a splurge, but it also lasts foreverrrr. This product is insane. It is basically topical Vitamin C, and you put it on before your regular moisturizer or make-up. (Vitamin C is your skin’s best friend.) I just put it around my eyes and forehead where I have lines, and it makes my skin look so much better.

3. Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer: I just cannot wear foundation – it’s too heavy for my very fair skin. I looked for years for the perfect tinted moisturizer – most were too light – but this one is just perfect. I will never use anything else ever again. First of all, it has an SPF, which is important for everyone, but especially important for someone who works outside a lot of the time. It evens out my skin tone without feeling heavy or greasy. I am obsessed.

4. Stila Eye Shadow: I have a couple of different palettes, but the In the Light Palette is my favorite. Stila just goes on really nicely, and I can use it for eye shadow or eye liner if I use the right brush. I also really love Stila because when you buy a palette it comes with a little lookbook of all the ways you can mix and match the colors.

5. Urban Decay Primer: I put this on before I put on my tinted moisturizer, and it makes my make-up last so much longer than it should. It is especially amazing on hot days when I’m shooting, and I feel like my make-up is going to melt. This stuff seriously keeps my make-up looking good all day long. Pair it with Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, and your make-up isn’t going anywhere until you wash it off.

So what products can you not live without? I’d love to hear!

  • This is interesting… (maybe) since I’m Asian I don’t think about forehead wrinkles or anything like that. My mom looked fresh as a 20-year-old when she was 50, so I’ve never considered anti-wrinkle products. But! I started getting into GOOD makeup last year and the Naked 1 Palette by Urban Decay is my best purchase. I held off for SO LONG because it’s so expensive, but when UD finally had them on sale I snapped one up. I love it so much I bought my sister the Naked Basics this Christmas. I’m also a big fan of Blinc mascara, as you know :)

  • Ok. Now I seriously want that Vitamin C stuff. I’m paranoid about aging- sad, but true- and this sounds amazing!!!

  • Alison

Definitely going to pick up some of these! Thanks for the heads up!

  • I don’t wear makeup often, but when I do, it’s usually bare minerals matte foundation and blush, sephora eyeshadow, and cheapish mascara (because I don’t use it often, and don’t keep it after 6 months.)

For skin care, I wash my face with raw honey most days, and if I wear makeup, I wash with Lush Ultrabland or straight jojoba oil, and moisturize with Burt’s Bees royal jelly day cream.

  • I can’t live without Urban Decay’s eye primer! I can’t even fathom putting eyeshadow on without it!
And since I’m a product junkie – I must try this Kiehls line reducer!

  • Yeah I want to buy all of this stuff now. I’m a sucker like that. (Especially the Bobbi Brown as I am currently using the Nars Tinted Moisturizer and it’s soooo yellowwww)

    Some things I use:
    Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Nars The Multiple (in Orgasm, obviously)
Nars Larger than Life Eyeliner (in black, aqua, and gold… matches my website, lol)
    Urban Decay All-Nighter… for weddings!

  • I am *terrible* at taking care of my skin! I need to get on this.

  • Anna

Great picks Katie Jane! I can’t live without my L’Oreal Silver Shampoo and Organic Argan Oil for my blonde locks. My Lucas PawPaw ointment which keeps my lips soft and moisturised. My rejuvenating moisturiser by Neal’s Yards London. Sephora’s Waterproof Make-up Remover is also one of my favourites too. I also love my Bare Minerals Powder Foundation. It’s super lightweight, has an SPF15, and can be built up for a heavier coverage for a night out on the town! I’m also really loving MAC’s fake eyelash range. I have just started wearing them for big social events and they really make your eyes pop!

  • Liking these products! I’m very interested in getting a good tinted moisturizer – I’m going to check this out! :D

  • Ahhh, you knew you’d get me with a makeup and beauty product post!!! Haha, I reallyyy want to try that Vitamin C stuff now! And YESSS to the Urban Decay primer and setting spray…a photographer’s best friends!

  • I’m lame, but my one and only beauty product that I’m 100% loyal too is my Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm from Burt’s Bees!

  • I am going to have to try that Kiehls cream! I swear by everything Origins, especially their organic line for normal/oily skin. I have used origins plantscription serum the last month and it has almost completely gotten rid of my huge forehead lines!

  • Great post, I really really love stila’s palettes. Urban Decay’s primer is also one of the best. Take it from a pro, you’ve got fab taste!
