I’m sitting in my hotel room in Oahu, Hawaii. The clock on my computer, which I haven’t changed since we began our travels, says it’s 4:49am in New York on Tuesday morning. Which would make it 10:49pm here. I think. I have been somewhat confused about the date and time for the last eighteen days.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) we head home, arriving in New York City at 8am on Wednesday. I’ll take the weekend to recuperate and get back on Eastern time, and then it’s business as usual next week.
Travel is such a strange and magical thing. I went just about as far away from home as I could possibly get. And yet, as my plane took off in Sydney on Saturday night, all I could think is… ok, what’s next? Where am I going next? This addiction gets worse every time I leave my time zone. Travel begets travel. It’s not even a choice at this point… it’s a mission.
This trip was a transformative experience in so many ways. I unplugged from work wholly and completely for the first time in my career, and I can’t tell you how good it was for my soul. (Not so good for my inbox, but what can you do.)
I can’t wait to share my photographs and stories. Much more to come next week. See you soon.
