(My trip is going to have to be broken into three posts I think. I was sitting here going through photos, and I realized this blog post was quickly getting out of hand. So here’s part one, these are photos from the first three or four days of our trip.)
I had certain expectations about Australia before we went there. Everyone said that since we were New Yorkers, we’d love Melbourne the most, and so we planned to stay in Melbourne a day longer than Sydney. What people don’t know, however, is that I’m actually a little bit of a west coaster at heart. I’ve tried to get John to move to California on more than one occasion (don’t worry – it’s never going to happen), and our annual trip to California is something I look forward to every year. I love New York, but I really love California too. And so, much to my surprise, I loved Sydney. Loved with a capital L-O-V-E-D. Because it kind of felt like California to me.
I liked Melbourne too, don’t get me wrong, but Sydney was all sunshine and teal water and dolphins playing under the Harbour Bridge. By the end of day one, I was picking out houses for us on Manly Beach. Sydney was just really good for my soul.
